Going Home Another Way
Week 3 – The Destination
Three Magi on the Way to Bethlehem, by Hans Thoma
Wherever the Way May Lead
“If we only listen for God in church, we will miss half of the message. The good news is always beginning somewhere in the world for those with ears to hear and hearts to go wherever the way may lead.”1
The birth of Jesus wasn’t noticed or announced in the temple. Instead, a divine and celestial invitation went out to shepherds and Magi. The shepherds trusted their faith and journeyed to Bethlehem. The Magi trusted what they saw happening in the natural world – the remarkable star they saw with their own eyes. They knew that something momentous was occurring and that following their curiosity would lead to answers. God invited both the faithful (who were just living their lives, diligently performing their jobs) and the open-minded and curious.
For Reflection
Have you received an invitation from God this Advent? This may be an invitation to something that seems small and insignificant but could be a new or different way to use your gifts to bring about good in your part of the world.
